The duo miraculously got in touch again in 2007, when both of them logged on to Facebook. They started chatting over MSN, and one day, Ellen told William that she was going to publish a book, My Two Decades in a Colony. Curious of what kind of "writer" Ellen was, William placed an order for the book and became Ellen's first patron. The two became close friends soon after and encouraged each other through ups and downs.

One day, Ellen was caught by surprise when she got flowers and fresh strawberries from William, who was on a business trip. They officially started dating while William was back in Hong Kong for a vacation.
