Ellen was born and raised in a very loving family. Under the influence of her parents, both Chinese teachers at elementary schools in Hong Kong, Ellen enjoyed reading the compositions of her mother's students and writing since she was very young.
Very used to fighting (!) with her elder brother Eric at leisure and capable of memorizing Chinese poems, by the age of four, Ellen was made to give verse speaking performances in front of her parents' friends on various occasions. She aspired to become a lawyer, which she believed was all about arguing, fighting and public speaking.
Ellen was brought to an elementary music class at a children's arts center at the age of three, and started playing the piano at five. She also enjoyed singing, dancing and acting (i.e. speaking to herself) as a child.
During her high school days, Ellen was never good at math and science and obviously preferred, by far, subjects such as English literature and history. She became the editor of the Current Affairs Club and Chinese Club bulletins and into following and writing about current affairs. As such, she went on to study journalism at university, and eventually political science. She attended the Cantonese Christian Fellowship at Columbia and was baptized just before she graduated in 2000.
Ellen and William met through their mutual friend Phyllis in New York in 2003. She returned to Hong Kong in 2004 and is currently working as a public affairs consultant.
William was born and raised in Hong Kong. He had a carefree and blissful childhood - he spent most of his time playing and eating (His waist was about 38 inches at one point!), and spent the bare minimal on studying.
Since he was a kid, William has been fascinated by Math and Science. What's more, he loved cars (not so much now) and wanted to be a cab driver when he was about five years old.
In his early teens, William was indulging in video games. All of his time was spent with a Nintendo console and, later, a PC. He was the first among his peers to log on to BBS, which is the art prior to the Internet. Since then, he aspires to a career related to computer or technology, thinking naively that working in front of a monitor would be fun and enjoyable.
After many years of studying, he finally started his career in circuit design and device Physics. While he was working on his doctorate at Columbia, he met Ellen and they have become friends ever since.
William is hooked on coffee and spicy food. In his past time, he enjoys hiking and jogging. On a normal day, he would finish a mile within seven minutes.
Last but not least, like Ellen, William is a Christian and he's a member of a Chinese and Missionary Alliance Church in Portland, Oregon.
